I grew up knowing that I needed to read the Bible. The only problem was this: I didn’t really have anyone show me how. I knew how to read it to get information, pass tests, and memorize verses for my Bible classes at my Christian school. I could do that. But I didn’t know how to spend time with Jesus in the Bible in a consistent way. I didn’t have a method for walking through the Scriptures with Jesus.

But when I was 19 years old, up at Hume Lake as a youth counselor for the high school group from our church, I went to a seminar taught by a youth pastor that changed my whole life. There and then, I learned HOW to spend time with Jesus in the Bible.

Below the link to a video I put together to teach you how to spend quality time with Jesus in the Scriptures. This is not the only way to spend time with Jesus. I wanted to pass it on to those of you who find yourselves in that same place: you know what you’re supposed to do but not quite sure how. I pray this helps you like it did me 30 years ago.

BIBLE STUDY METHOD.

  • PROMWAS [watch video] This is the Bible study method that I learned at Hume Lake Christian Camp thirty years ago.

  1. I like to use OID:

Observation (who, what, when, where, why, and how)

Interpretation (what does it mean in the historical context)

Application (how do I apply this to my life today).

This has worked for me, but I really like the Pray, Meditate, Write and Share ideas.

Thank you for sharing this Brian!

    1. Hey David… good stuff. The one thing I would change about observation in your example above is putting “why” and “how” later in in the process, under interpretation and/or application. But good stuff. Thanks for sharing this!
