On that day there will be… – Isaiah 19.23, CSB

What seems unraveled and in disarray is still being worked out. What seems hopeless and impossible is ushering in God’s work of redemption.

As I’ve spent time with the Lord in Isaiah, I’ve been reminded how much I don’t know. There is so much in Isaiah that goes over my head because I still need to learn. There are some key verses that I know and remember often because of how much we use them at Christmas-time, along with key passages that have stood out to me for years that God has used over and over to bless, instruct, and comfort me during different seasons of my walk with Jesus. So please know that I am no expert when it comes to Isaiah, and I do not understand all of the intricacies and context of this wonderful prophetic writing. But I still believe that simply reading through Scripture, seeking the Lord, and learning along the way what he reveals through its pages at his pace is beneficial. So don’t give up. Neither will I.

“On that day there will be a highway from Egypt to Assyria, Assyria will go to Egypt, Egypt to Assyria, and Egypt will worship with Assyria” (Isaiah 19.23, CSB).

Impossible! Who would have believed this when Isaiah made it known? Egypt and Assyria were enemies in the days of Isaiah. And yet, Isaiah prophesied that there would come a day when they would have a highway that connected the two warring countries, each traveling on it to the other country, and worshiping God together. It hasn’t happened yet, but it will.

“On that day there will be” is a reminder of the hope that we have that God’s playground is the impossible. “On that day there will be” is a declaration of hope that our souls need when discouragement sets in. “On that day there will be” is a statement that should spur us on to greater worship of God and greater works done in his name while we live here on the earth he gave us. It points us to Jesus, our Redeemer, as the source of life and healing. It reminds us that what we see as bleak and dire is never outside of the realm of God’s miraculous intervention. It reminds us that God has a plan and will accomplish exactly what he wants. It reminds us that his timetable is set and secure. And because “on that day there will be,” we find hope, rest, and peace as we continue to walk humbly with him and do what he calls us to do in his grand plan.

So don’t give up. Don’t lose heart. Continue to hold on to Paul’s words to the Christians in Galatia. “So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up. Therefore, whenever we have the opportunity, we should do good to everyone—especially to those in the family of faith” (Galatians 6.9-10, NLT).
